El maestro Michel de Villarreal y la Capilla del Mariscal en el monasterio cacereño de San Francisco

Abstract

Se documenta una nueva obra del importante arquitecto Michel de Villarreal, maestro mayor que fue de la Catedral de Coria a comienzos del siglo XVI: la capilla gótica del Mariscal en el conventual cacereño de San Francisco, encargada por don Francisco de Torres, Mariscal de Castilla, el 21 de mayo del año 1519 y ajustada con el citado maestro en 55.000 maravedís con una serie de condiciones incluidas en el contrato.

The present article presents documentary evidence on a new work by the important architect Michel de Villarreal, main master of the Cathedral of Coria at the beginning of the sixteenth century: The so-called Marshal’s gothic chapel, in the Monastery of San Francisco in Cáceres, was commissioned by don Francisco de Torres, Marshal of Castile, on May 21st, 1519. The cost of the works was agreed with the master on the amount of 55.000 maravedís, with a series of conditions included in the contract.
