Tim Walker: La creación de mundos fantásticos en la fotografía de moda

Abstract

El trabajo presente aborda no sólo la obra y estilo de Tim Walker, uno de los fotógrafos de moda más reconocidos a nivel internacional, sino la relación entre la fotografía y la creación de mundos fantásticos en las artes desde los inicios de la humanidad. Mediante el acercamiento histórico a la fotografía en relación con el resto de artes plásticas, así como su vínculo con cuestiones iconográficas, sociales y psicológicas, alcanzaremos a comprender la importancia del género, y por qué esta temática continúa siendo vigente hoy en día. Nos adentraremos en un viaje a lo largo de la dilatada carrera del autor, considerado más que un simple fotógrafo, un cuentacuentos, un creador de mundos, plasmando más tarde los resultados de nuestra investigación en un proyecto fotográfico personal que toma como base algunos de los proyectos del autor, condensando de forma modesta la fantasía actual y las inquietudes propias.

The current essay offers an approach not only to Tim Walker’s work and style, but also to the connections that can be found between photography and the creation of fantasy worlds on art throughout History. Through an historical revision of fine-art photography, and the links stablished among art and iconographic, sociologic and psychologic matters, it will be demonstrated how crucial fantasy genre has been in the recent past, and the reasons on the theme being still relevant nowadays. The essay will cover the many phases of Walker’s production, as well as why is considered more than just a photographer, a creator, a storyteller. The final part of the essay includes a personal photography project, based on the work of the author, that presents a humble revision on fantasy trends and the student’s own thoughts.
