Digital skills and profile of each generation: a review

Abstract

El desarrollo tecnológico está cambiando, involucrando y condicionando la vida cotidiana, haciéndola más rápida, hiperconectada e inmediata. Las nuevas tecnologías pueden tener un doble resultado: positivo, dado que asumen el papel de facilitador, o negativo, cuando las personas tienden a hacer un uso excesivo e inconsciente de ellas o la tecnología reemplaza repetidamente al ser humano. Hoy, por tanto, se necesitan nuevas competencias para toda la población, las competencias digitales, tanto en la vida cotidiana como en el mercado laboral. Se trata de habilidades transversales que permiten al ser humano elegir las tecnologías adecuadas: investigar, analizar datos y elegir información confiable entre aquellas que requieren mayor estudio, y verificar la salud de las personas, interactuar con sujetos diferentes y distantes del mundo, para mejorar el aprendizaje escolar... La pluralidad de personas que están involucrándose en este desarrollo tecnológico nos permite analizar la población en términos de generaciones, desde la Generación Silenciosa hasta la Generación Alfa. En este artículo queremos presentar una revisión de la literatura dentro de la base de datos de Google Scholar en los últimos 10 años utilizando los términos habilidades digitales y generación diferente. Esta investigación preliminar nos permite analizar las diferentes teorías que hacen de las Habilidades Digitales una definición, dimensiones y modelo de evaluación, y los perfiles generacionales para tener una teoría compartida y común entre los diferentes profesionales. Tener un fondo preciso de competencias digitales y perfiles generacionales favorece la inclusión de todas las personas y la mejora de la calidad de vida en la creación de proyectos psicopedagógicos y en el diseño de productos tecnológicos.

The technological development is changing, involving and conditioning everyday life, making it faster, hyper-connected and immediate. New technologies can have a double outcome: positive, given that they take on the role of facilitator, or negative, when people tend to make excessive and unconscious use of it or technology repeatedly replaces human beings. Today, therefore, new skills are needed for the entire population, the digital skills, both in everyday life and in the labour market. These are transversal skills that allow human beings to choose the right technologies: to research, analyze data and choose reliable information from those that require further study, to check and verify the health of people, to interact with different and distant subjects in the world, to improve school learning... The plurality of people that this technological development is involving allows us to analyze the population in terms of generations, from Silent Generation to Alpha Generation. In this article we want to present a literature review within the Google Scholar database in the last 10 years using the terms digital skills and different generation. This preliminary research allows us to analyze the different theories that make for the Digital Skills a definition, dimensions and evaluation model, and the generational profiles in order to have a shared and common theory among the different professionals. Having an accurate background of digital skills and generational profiles favours the inclusion of all people, and the improvement of the quality of life in the creation of psycho-pedagogical projects and in the design of technological products.
