Las adaptaciones cinematográficas de obras literarias: un recorrido teórico en el marco de la ciencia ficción

Abstract

Las adaptaciones cinematográficas de obras literarias forman parte de la historia del cine prácticamente desde su nacimiento, como demuestran las diferentes teorías que estudian la relación del séptimo arte con el ámbito de la literatura. Toman de los libros no solo sus argumentos, sino también sus elementos narrativos, figuras literarias, personajes, diálogos… transformando el lenguaje literario en lenguaje cinematográfico. Para ello, es importante conocer qué factores influyen a la hora de realizar este proceso, desde un punto de vista académico y respaldado por investigaciones de esta área del conocimiento, además de por la Ley de Propiedad Intelectual. Hacerlo apoyados en un género concreto otorga al estudio la perspectiva de cómo las adaptaciones varían según los responsables de llevarla a cabo, sin que el género en cuestión sea tan determinante a la hora de establecer corrientes estandarizadas. Por ello se ha escogido a la ciencia ficción, género que surge casi al mismo tiempo en la literatura y en el cine, lo que provoca que una disciplina influya a la otra más ampliamente que en otras temáticas. Por último, con el afán de aplicar los conceptos teóricos aquí tratados, se han analizado un total de ocho filmes, todos ellos adaptaciones de cuatro novelas clásicas de ciencia ficción (Frankenstein o el moderno Prometeo, La guerra de los mundos, 1984 y Fahrenheit 451).

The cinematographic adaptations of literary works have been part of the history of cinema since its inception, like the different theories that study the relationship of the seventh art with the field of literature. They take from the books not only their arguments, but also their narrative elements, literary figures, characters, dialogues ... transforming literary language into cinematographic language. For this, it is important to know what factors influence when carrying out this process, from an academic point of view and backed by research in this area of knowledge, in addition to the Intellectual Property Law. Doing it supported by a specific genre gives the study the perspective of how the specific adaptations according to those responsible for carrying it out, without the gender in question being so decisive when establishing standardized currents. That is why science fiction has been chosen, a genre that appears almost at the same time in literature and cinema, which causes one discipline to influence the other more difficult than other subjects. Finally, in an effort to apply the theoretical concepts discussed here, a total of eight films have been analyzed, all of them adaptations of four classic science fiction novels (Frankenstein or the modern Prometheus, The War of the Worlds, 1984 and Fahrenheit 451).
