La villa de Azuaga durante la Guerra de Sucesión española

Abstract

La Guerra de Sucesión, originada por el problema sucesorio al trono de España que se plantea tras morir Carlos II de Habsburgo sin dejar descendencia, es considerado por muchos autores como la primera guerra civil española y la primera que extiende su campo de batalla por varios continentes y océanos del planeta. En ella se dieron cita los intereses de las diferentes potencias europeas por controlar las posesiones europeas y ultramarinas del imperio español. Tras una necesaria contextualización de lo que fue el conflicto en su conjunto, el presente trabajo se centra en como afectó este a la villa de Azuaga, localidad posicionada en la retaguardia cercana de uno de los principales frentes de batalla en la frontera hispano-portuguesa.

The War of Succession, originated by the successory problem to the throne of Spain that arises after the death of Charles II of Hapsburg without leaving offspring, is considered by many authors as the first Spanish civil war and the first to extend its battlefield across several continents and oceans of the planet. In her the interests of the different European powers gathered to control the European and ultramarine possessions of the Spanish empire. After a necessary contextualization of what was the conflict as a whole, the present work focuses on how it affected the town of Azuaga, a town positioned in the near rear of one of the main battle fronts located on the Spanish-Portuguese border.
