Aproximaciones del imaginario americano en artistas y viajeros europeos a México en el siglo XIX. Breve apunte sobre las mujeres viajeras

Abstract

El inicio del siglo XIX trae como consecuencia un cambio de postura hacia el mundo, no solo por los acontecimientos históricos que marcan el fin de una era a finales del XVIII, sino por el nuevo espíritu que surge denominado Romanticismo. Ante el viaje aparecerán dos posturas antagónicas: el interés científico por la naturaleza y la visión romántica de la misma, entendida como la perspectiva de la emoción del individuo frente a la realidad que le rodea. México será uno de sus destinos donde buscará los paraísos perdidos y los lugares ignotos. Partiendo del perfil del viajero, el trabajo destaca la manera de percibir el paisaje y la vida cotidiana, con el análisis de los temas más relevantes, entre los que figuran la personificación literaria de los parajes y las ilustraciones románticas descritas por las mujeres cronistas.

The transformations of the nineteenth century brought a change of perspective towards the world, not only because of the historical events that mark the end of an era at the end of the 18th century, but because of a new spirit that establish the essence of the Romanticism. As result of that journey two opposing positions will appear: the scientific interest in nature and the romantic vision of it, understood as the perspective of the emotion of the individual in front of the reality that surrounds him. Mexico is one of the destinations where to look for lost paradises and unknown places. Starting from the point of view of the traveler, the work highlights the way of perceiving the landscape and the everyday life, analyzing of the most relevant topics. Among those, there are the literary personification of the landscapes and the romantic illustrations described by the women chroniclers.
