El valle medio del Guadiana, "espacio de frontera" en la Protohistoria del suroeste (II)

Abstract

Uno de los aspectos más definidores de la historia del Valle Medio del Guadiana (y Tajo) es su carácter fronterizo, como espacio de contacto y transición entre realidades socioculturales diversas. Dicho carácter muy bien pudo determinar los particularimos del poblamiento orientalizante y del posible modelo de expansión comercial al que parece asociarse. Concluida la hegemonía tartésica, vettones, célticos y túrdulos esencialmente fueron las etnias que protagonizaron el replanteamiento socioeconómico y cultural que permitió la superación de las consecuencias negativas que para este territo­rio tuvo el 400 a.C. así como la definición de la Beturia prerromana.

One of the most defining aspects of the history of the Middle Guadiana (and Tagus) Valley is its frontier character, as a space of contact and transition between different socio-cultural realities. This character may well have determined the particularities of the Oriental settlement and the possible model of commercial expansion with which it seems to be associated. After the end of the Tartessian hegemony, the Vettones, Celts and Turduli were essentially the ethnic groups that played a leading role in the socio-economic and cultural rethinking that allowed the negative consequences of the 400 BC for this territory to be overcome, as well as the definition of pre-Roman Beturia.
