Expandir para desativar: a Estrada de Ferro Santa Catarina na formaçao econômica do Vale do ltajaí

Abstract

El objetivo de este artículo es argumentar la inserción y la actuación del Ferrocarril Santa Catarina en el Valle del Itajaí, desde la concepción del proyecto, finales del siglo XIX hasta la completa desactivación, en 19 71. Se abordarán los siguientes temas en el texto: las concesiones legales y los proyectos iniciales; el inicio de las operaciones del ferrocarril; la ampliación de la línea por el oeste y la costa; la competencia que sufrió la EFSC con la carretera; y las iniciativas tomadas para desactivarlo. Finalmente, se realizará una breve reflexión sobre los déficits del ferrocarril y el desempeño económico de la región.

The objective of this article is to argue the insertion and the performance of the Railroad Santa Catarina in theValley of the Itajaí, since the conception of the project, end of century XIX until the complete deactivation, in 19 71. The following topics will be boarded in the text: the legal concessions and the initial projects; the beginning of the operations of the railroad; the expansion of the line for the west and the coast; the competition that the EFSC suffered with the highway; and the taken initiatives to disactivate it. Finally, one brief reflection on deficits of the railroad and the economic performance of the region will be made.

O objetivo deste artigo é discutir a inserção e o desempenho da Estrada de Ferro Santa Catarina (EFSC) no Vale do Itajaí, desde a concepção do projeto, final do século XIX, até a completa desativação em 19 71. Seriio abordados no texto os seguintes tópicos: as concesséies legais e os projetos iniciais; o início das operações da ferrovia; a expansiio da linha para o oeste e litoral; a concorrencia que a EFSC sofria com a rodovia; e as iniciativas tomadas para desativá-la. Por último, será feito urna breve reflexiio sobre os déficits da ferrovia e o desempenho economico da regiiio.
