Patrimonio y mar en la construcción de paisajes culturales: arquitectura contemporánea en los espacios portuarios de Asturias, Cantabria y País Vasco

Abstract

El objeto de este artículo es resaltar la importancia del patrimonio arquitectónico contemporáneo que preside buena parte de las estructuras portuarias de la cornisa cantábrica, como elementos definidores, junto con el resto de las acciones antrópicas y sus testimonios infraestructurales y técnicos, de un paisaje cultural que aún no ha tenido el reconocimiento de las administraciones, sin embargo, es un elemento identitario no sólo entre su ciudadanía sino en el contexto internacional. Bajo estas premisas se ha definido el perfil de las principales ciudades costeras del cantábrico, Avilés, Gijón, Santander y Bilbao, en las que la tradición marinera y portuaria convive con la renovación urbanística presidida por estos grandes contenedores culturales representativos de la mejor arquitectura contemporánea.

The aim of this article is to stress the importance of contemporary architectural heritage that is present in many harbors of the Cantabrian Sea. Together with the res t of the anthropic actions and their infrastructural and technical testimonies, these architectures are defining elements of a cultural landscape that has not yet been recognized by the administrations, even though they are key in the articulation of local identities and are also recognized as relevant structures in the international context. These structures have defined the profile of the main cities in the Cantabrian Sea, such as Avilés, Gijón, Santander and Bilbao, where the seafaring and the port tradition coexists with the urban renewal in the cultural activities organized in these buildings, that constitute central examples of the best contemporary architecture.
