Éxodo, libertad y progreso en el teatro social de Manuel Linares Rivas

Abstract

Las obras de Manuel Linares Rivas se inscriben en la corriente literaria mayoritaria del teatro políticamente comprometido o social, de la primera mitad del siglo XX. La corrupción de un sistema político despótico y oligárquico, el oscurantismo y el dogmatismo religioso, la hipocresía y el travestismo liberal de la burguesía, la desigualdad y la injusticia social, el europeísmo, la educación de la mujer, la alienación del campesino, el hambre y la pobreza, la explotación de los trabajadores y el incipiente mundo capitalista, entre otros, son algunas de las referencias que definen las inclinaciones ideológicas del autor y demuestran su compromiso con los movimientos y reivindicaciones progresistas de principios del siglo XX. El presente artículo pretende establecer los límites de este tema analizando algunas de sus obras más polémicas, centrándose especialmente en el "problema de la mujer" como abanderada de las clases oprimidas o la alegoría del éxodo, la libertad y el progreso en la lucha por la libertad y la igualdad social.

The plays of Manuel Linares Rivas are part of the mainstream literary trend of politically- committed or social drama of the first half of the 20th century. The corruption of a despotic and oligarchic political system, obscurantism and religious dogmatism, the hypocrisy and liberal transvestism of the bourgeoisie, inequality and social injustice, European-mindedness, the education of women, the alienation of the peasant, hunger and poverty, the exploitation of workers and the emerging capitalist world, among others, are some of the references that define the ideological leanings of the author and prove his commitment to the progressive movements and claims of the early 20th century. The present article aims to establish the boundaries of this topic analysing some of his most controversia! works, focussing especially on the «the problem of women» as standard bearers of the oppressed classes or allegory of exodus, freedom and progress in the struggle for social liberty and equality.
