¿Por qué la historia en el teatro?

Abstract

Las motivaciones que llevan a un dramaturgo a escribir un drama histórico aclaran en muchos casos las funciones que ese drama histórico tendrá en el sistema cultural que lo recibe. Sin embargo, en muchas ocasiones los autores y la crítica han intentado esconder su significación política y social detrás de motivaciones puramente estéticas. Este hecho ha provocado que los análisis de los dramas históricos de la literatura occidental se hayan realizado desde perspectivas equivocadas -intentando calibrar su calidad a partir del grado dé fidelidad, de neutralidad .. ,- negándole el valor real que este tipo de obras tuvieron y tienen en la sociedad. Por esta razón, en este trabajo intentaremos analizar todos los tipos de funciones y motivaciones que puede presentar un texto, jerarquizarlas y presentar de este modo un modelo más adecuado de análisis de las funciones de cualquier drama histórico.

The motivations that encourage a playwright to compase a historical play often clarify the functions which the historical piece will perfom in the cultural system receiving it. However, authors and scholarly criticism have often attempted to hide political and social meaning under sheer aesthetic incentives. This fact has led to wrongful perspectives in historical drama analysis of Western literature. Such a mistaken path has usually been taken by valuing quality on the basis of reliability and neutrality, thus denying the real value that these plays had and have for society. As a result, this paper aims to analyse all the types of functions and motivations held by a text, to arrange them and to present a more fitting model of function analysis in any historical drama.
