De Belfast a Stratford: la renovación del género cinematográfico por Kenneth Branagh

Abstract

Durante años, se ha puesto de manifiesto la relevancia que muchos autores han tenido a lo largo de la Historia del Cine; sin embargo, en pocos libros aparece el nombre de Kenneth Branagh, lo cual resulta bastante desconcertante, ya que este hombre renueva el cine de las adaptaciones de Shakespeare, de tal forma, que lo aproxima a un espectador que no siente ningún amor hacia el teatro. De esta manera, el siguiente trabajo surge con la idea de reivindicar la importancia que este cineasta ha tenido en el séptimo arte, a través del estudio de su filmografía, y del análisis de tres de sus películas más relevantes: Enrique V, Mucho ruido y pocas nueces y Hamlet, para observar qué diferencias existen con los relatos originales y cómo traslada él estas historias a la gran pantalla. Todo ello, sin olvidarnos de aquellos directores que allanaron el camino de Branagh, permitiéndole adquirir un estilo puramente lírico y teatral, que también se manifiesta en sus producciones más comerciales, como Thor o La cenicienta.

For years, the relevance of many authors have been exposed throughout the Cinema History; however, in few books we can find the name of Kenneth Branagh, which is very disconcerting, because this man renovates the cinema of Shakespeare’s adaptations, in a way that approximate it to an audience that does not feel any love for theatre. Therefore, the next essay issues from the idea of reclaim the importance that this filmmaker has been had in cinema, through the study of his filmography, and the detailed analysis of his most relevant films: Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing and Hamlet, to observe what differences are with original stories and how he brings to the big screen that plays. All of that, without forgetting those directors who paved the way for Branagh, allowing him to get a lyrical and theatrical style, which appears too in his mainstream films, like Thor or Cinderella.
