Niveles de estrés en madres de niños atendidos en un Centro de Desarrollo Infantil y Atención Temprana y de niños de población general

Abstract

El propósito del presente trabajo consiste en comparar los niveles de estrés experimentado por madres cuyos niños son atendidos en un Centro de Desarrollo Infantil y Atención Temprana frente a madres primerizas y cuyos niños asisten a un Escuela Infantil. El número de participantes ha sido 112 madres distribuidas en dos grupos idénticos de 56. El primer grupo estaba constituido por madres de niños que presentaban algún tipo de alteración en el desarrollo y que acudían a un CDIAT, mientras que el segundo grupo estaba constituido por 56 madres primíparas y cuyos niños asisten a un Escuela Infantil. La prueba utilizada fue el Parenting Stress Index Short Form de Abidin y se categorizaron los resultados en tres niveles: estrés bajo, estrés normal, y estrés alto. Los datos fueron analizados mediante el paquete estadístico SPSS.13 efectuando una prueba de _2. Los resultados indican diferencias significativas en la distribución de los niveles de estrés en ambas muestras. Estos resultados apoyan la necesidad de efectuar intervenciones sobre los padres de niños que requieren de Atención Temprana y se discuten a la luz de la literatura existente sobre el tema.

The aim of this work is to compare the stress levels in mothers of children who assist to a Childhood development and Early Intervention Centre with first time mothers whose children go to the Nursery school (Kindergarten). The number of participants has been 112 mothers divided in two identical groups of 56 persons each. The first group was composed of mothers of children who have any kind of developmental alteration and assist to a childhood developmental centre; the second, was a group of 56 first time mothers whose children go to the nursery school. The employed instrument was the Parenting Stress Index Short Form of Abidin and the results were categorized in three levels: low, medium and high stress. The data was analyzed using the computerized statistical package SPSS (version 13.0), by means of the chi square estimations (_2). These results indicate significant differences in the distribution of the stress levels between the two groups, These results support the need to carry out interventions with the parents of children who require Early Intervention and they will be discussed in the light of the existent literature about this issue.
