Humanist women should be understood as those who master, read and compose in the languages of antiquity: above all Latin and Greek, but also Hebrew. There is a theoretical position, especially from the liberal minds of certain humanists, which maintains that women can and should have a literary education. But the reality is, as we will try to demonstrate in these lines, that this theoretical position of humanists such as Erasmus or Vives remains a pure desideratum and that the tradition of this list of illustrious humanist women is nothing more than a creation of this desideratum, closer to what would be desirable than to what it really was.
