Un regard vers le regard: "Malpertuis" de Jean Ray

Abstract

El artículo analiza la función que tiene la mirada en la novela Malpertuis, porque en casi todas las páginas del libro hay una alusión, si no más, al campo semántico de la mirada. Aparentemente, no debería sorprendernos encontrar referencias al tema a considerar siendo una obra perteneciente a lo fantástico, ya que es un tema a menudo explotado por los autores debido a su carácter ansiogénico. El sentimiento de terror o angustia se produce por lo que piensan los sentidos o creen percibir. En otras palabras, el miedo es causado por la percepción directa de un "fenómeno monstruoso", ya sea un hecho o un ser o, lo que aún es más angustiante, por la idea que se tiene (ya que no se ve) de lo que puede ser la fuente del miedo.

The article analyzes the function of the gaze in the novel Malpertuis, because in almost every page of the book there is an allusion, if not more, to the semantic field of the gaze. Apparently, it should not surprise us to find references to the theme to be considered as a work belonging to the fantastic, since it is a theme often exploited by authors due to its anxiogenic nature. The feeling of terror or anguish is produced by what the senses think or believe they perceive. In other words, fear is caused by the direct perception of a "monstrous phenomenon", be it a fact or a being or, what is even more distressing, by the idea that one has (since it is not seen) of what which may be the source of the fear.
