Abstract

El final del siglo XIX en Bélgica fue escenario de un intenso debate sobre algunas preguntas deslumbrantes como el Naturalismo, el Arte por el Arte o el Simbolismo. Imbuida de la atmósfera de estas nuevas ideas, la crítica de arte de Verhaeren forma parte del gran movimiento de "lucha por el arte" que, a partir de los años 80, se impuso como un deber tanto para los artistas como para los escritores.

The end of the 19th century in Belgium was the scene of an intense debate on some dazzling questions such as Naturalism, Art for Art's sake or Symbolism. Imbued with the atmosphere of these new ideas, Verhaeren's art criticism is part of the great movement of "struggle for art" which, from the 1980s, became a duty for both artists and writers.
