Abstract

La frontera de España con Portugal es la más próxima y fácilmente permeable de cuantas se levantan a partir del epicentro político de la Monarquía Hispánica durante la Edad Moderna. Se diferencia de otras, como la de Francia, en el hecho de que ofrece pocos o ningún accidente natural en su delimitación que impida superarla con relativa facilidad, y por la presencia al otro lado de una potencia de menor entidad e incapaz de disputarle la condición de hegemonía que asumió en alguna fase de su historia, excepto en momentos de grandes alianzas que propiciaron lo contrario.
