Características del ambiente familiar y relaciones de pareja en estudiantes universitarios

Abstract

El objetivo de nuestra investigación es analizar la posible relación entre las características del ambiente de la familia de origen y la utilización de conductas abusivas en las relaciones de pareja de 469 estudiantes universitarios. Con el fin de obtener información sobre las características del ambiente familiar se utilizó la Escala de Clima Social de la Familia (FES) (Moos et al., 1989). Los conflictos en sus relaciones de pareja se evaluaron mediante el Inventario de conflictos en las relaciones de pareja (Wolfe et al., 2001). Los resultados del estudio demuestran el papel que determinadas variables del contexto familiar desempeñan en la utilización de conductas abusivas de los universitarios en sus relaciones de pareja. Concretamente, el nivel de conflictividad en la familia se asocia positivamente a un mayor riesgo de abusos (físicos, verbales, conductas amenazantes) con la pareja. Por el contrario, características positivas, como la cohesión, la organización, la participación en actividades culturales o social-recreativas y, finalmente, la estimulación de la autonomía de los hijos, actúan como variables amortiguadoras y disminuyen el riesgo de conductas y estrategias negativas con la pareja.

The aim of our study was to analyse the relationship between the family environment characteristics and the abusive behaviors in the couple relationships, in a sample of 469 college students. We employed the Family Environment Scale (Moos et al., 1989) in order to obtain information about the family environment characteristics. Conflicts in the couple relationships were assessed with the Conflict in Adolescent Dating Relationships Inventory (Wolfe et al., 2001). Results of the study show that the role that certain family environment variables play in the use of abusive behaviors by college students in their couple relationships. Specifically conflicts level within the family relates positively to a higher risk of abuse (physical, verbal, threatening behaviors) with the partner. On the other hand, positive characteristics as is the cohesiveness, organisation, participation in cultural activities and, finally, the motivation of the children´s autonomy, act as buffering variables and diminish the risk of using negative behaviors and strategies with the partner.
