This article analyses the special nature ofErnaux's writing, which is closely linked to autobiographical narrative. Her work suggests an existential suffering which becornes clearer through the text itself. A deep sense of unease pierces the subject matter of her works and penetrates the narrative structure. Emaux has chosen to define her texts as autosociobiographical. The choice of this terrn arises from the inner isolation she experienced frorn adolescence onwards, due to differences of social class. By means of her writing, which she describes as plate, she strives to give the reader a truth that goes beyond individuality and reaches the reality of a whole social group. |
