Percepción del mercado laboral de jóvenes estudiantes universitarios: una aproximación cualitativa

Abstract

El principal objetivo de este estudio es describir la percepción que tienen los jóvenes universitarios extremeños del mercado laboral. Nos interesa saber qué expectativas tienen sobre su futuro laboral en el actual contexto socioeconómico de crisis. La muestra de nuestro estudio pertenece a la población de estudiantes universitarios de las carreras de Psicopedagogía, Relaciones laborales e Ingenierías Técnicas, pertenecientes a la Universidad de Extremadura. Se analizan sus discursos sobre diferentes temas relacionados con el futuro laboral: expectativas de encontrar empleo, atribución de las causas del desempleo, consecuencias del desempleo a nivel sociofamiliar y personal, etc. Se abordan en nuestro estudio diversos factores implicados en la socialización laboral de los jóvenes mediante una metodología cualitativa, como acción previa a posteriores desarrollos de esta línea de investigación. La aproximación cualitativa es muy apropiada cuando se analizan aspectos novedosos, cambiantes y globales. Para ello, utilizamos como procedimientos las entrevistas individuales y los grupos de discusión. Como resultado de la investigación, se confirman las hipótesis planteadas en el sentido de que los universitarios manifestaron una alta preocupación por el futuro de su situación laboral, así como escasas expectativas de conseguir un empleo ajustado a su nivel de formación y cualificación. Además, mencionan a la familia como principal fuente de apoyo en la actual situación de crisis.

The main aim of this research is to describe the perception of college students from Extremadura about labor market. We are interested in knowing what kind of expectations they have about their future employment in the current economic crisis. The sample in our study belongs to the population of university students in the careers of Psychology, Labor Relations and Technical Engineering, belonging to the University of Extremadura. Through their speeches on various topics related to future employment are analysed: expectations of finding employment, attributing the causes of unemployment, social and personal consequences of unemployment, etc. Several factors that are addressed in our study are involved in the socialization of young people through a qualitative methodology, as previous step to further development of this line of research. The qualitative approach is appropriated when considering new, changing and global aspects. To this end, we use procedures such as individual interviews and focus groups. As a result of the investigation, our hypothesis were confirmed, in the sense that the students expressed a high concern for the future of their employment status, and low expectations of getting a job tailored to their level of training and qualification. Also, refer to the family as the main source of support in the current crisis.
