Ordinal indices in Banach spaces

Abstract

The use of ordinal indices in Banach space theory dates back to the origins of the subject and can be found in S. Banach’s famous book. Interest in such indices was rejuvenated just over 35 years ago with a paper by Szlenk. Since then a number of ordinal indices have been constructed which measure the complexity of various aspects of the structure of a separable Banach space X.

El uso de índices ordinales en la teoría del espacio de Banach se remonta a los orígenes del tema y se puede encontrar en el famoso libro de S. Banach. El interés en tales índices se rejuveneció hace poco más de 35 años con un artículo de Szlenk. Desde entonces, se han construido varios índices ordinales que miden la complejidad de varios aspectos de la estructura de un espacio X de Banach separable.
