La satisfacción vital de adolescentes inmigrantes en España

Abstract

La safisfacción con la vida ha sido definida como la evaluación global de la calidad de la vida de una persona en función de criterios individuales (Shin y Johnson, 1987). No existen resultados concluyentes acerca de la mayor o menor satisfacción vital de los adolescentes de origen inmigrante en relación con sus iguales de origen autóctono, aunque los resultados recientes señalan que la adaptación de los adolescentes suele realizarse de manera satisfactoria y que no existen diferencias apreciables entre ellos (Berry, Phinney, Sam y Vedder, 2006). Aspectos como el apoyo social y la satisfacción con los estudios han mostrado tener repercusión en la adaptación psicológica de adolescentes en diferentes contextos culturales (Greene y Way, 2005). En este estudio se analizará la satisfacción con la vida entre adolescentes de origen español y extranjero que residen en España en relación con aspectos académicos, apoyo social y familiar. Los participantes fueron 333 adolescentes de origen latinoamericano y 380 españoles de entre 12 y 17 años que asistían a institutos de Secundaria en Madrid. Los datos serán analizados para determinar si existen diferencias entre ambos grupos, así como la influencia del momento de la migración y de variables psicosociales en la satisfacción vital manifestada por los adolescentes de origen inmigrante.

Satisfaction with life has been defined as the global evaluation of a person´s quality of life based on his or her own chosen criteria (Shin & Johnson, 1987). There are no clear results about the higher or lower level of life satisfaction among immigrant adolescents when compared with native peers. Some recent results point that the psychological adaptation of immigrant adolescents is usually possitive and that there are no significant differences between immigrant and native groups (Berry, Phinney, Sam, & Vedder, 2006). Social support and satisfaction at school have been found to have and influence on the psychological adaptation of adolescents in different cultural settings (Greene & Way, 2005). In this study we will analyze life satisfaction among adolescents with Spanish and foreign backgrounds in relation to social and family support. Participants were 333 adolescents born in different countries of Latin America y 380 Spanish between 12 and 17 years old in high schools in Madrid. Data will be examined to determine the influence of the moment of migration and psychosocial variables in the life satisfaction expressed by immigrant adolescents.
