Riesgos en salud mental y variables de protección en estudiantes universitarios

Abstract

En este trabajo se analiza la relación entre el riesgo de alteraciones emocionales o sintomatología emocional y variables sociodemográficas, académicas y personales (Bienestar subjetivo, felicidad, engagement, emociones, Satisfacción con la vida). Además, se pretende identificar variables predictoras del riesgo de sufrir alteraciones emocionales. La muestra está compuesta por 461 alumnos de Ciencias de la Universidad de Extremadura. Los instrumentos empleados han sido el Cuestionario de Salud General de Goldberg (GHQ12), Escala de Felicidad Subjetiva de Lyubomirsky y Lepper y la Escala de Satisfacción con la vida (SWLS),la Escala de Afectos positivos y Negativos (PANAS),el Utrech Work Engagement Scale-Student (UWES-9S) y la Escala de Salud de Percepción General de Ware et al. Algunos resultados indican que más del 60% de los estudiantes presentan riesgo de sufrir alteraciones psicológicas. Los participantes se caracterizan por experimentar afectos positivos, se sienten moderadamente felices, satisfechos con sus vidas y con los estudios que están cursando. La salud mental se asocia al sexo y a los afectos negativos.

Subjective Happiness Scale and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS), the Positive and Negative Affect Scale (PANAS), the Utrech Work Engagement Scale-Student (UWES). This paper analyses the relationship between the risk of emotional disturbances or emotional symptomatology and socio-demographic, academic and personal variables (subjective well-being, happiness, engagement, emotions, life satisfaction). In addition, the aim is to identify predictor variables for the risk of suffering emotional disturbances. The sample consisted of 461 science students from the University of Extremadura. The instruments used were the Goldberg General Health Questionnaire (GHQ12), Lyubomirsky and Lepper's -9S) and the General Health Perception Scale by Ware et al. Some results indicate that more than 60% of the students are at risk of suffering psychological disorders. Participants are characterised by experiencing positive affect, feeling moderately happy, satisfied with their lives and with the studies they are pursuing. Mental health is associated with gender and negative affect.
