Reformas del siglo XVI en el sistema defensivo de Portezuelo: una traza de Pedro de Ibarra

Abstract

En el artículo se describe el Castillo de Portezuelo (Cáceres), su evolución histórica así como el progresivo abandono y deterioro de sus sistemas defensivos, que serán sin embargo, mantenidos y restaurados en previsión de las conflagraciones que pudieran plantearse frente a las armas del vecino reino de Portugal. En este ambiente deben incardinarse las reformas acometidas en el castillo de Portezuelo a mediados del siglo XVI a través de un documento hallado en el Archivo Histórico Nacional. Estas tareas habrían de realizarse bajo las trazas y condiciones del maestro mayor de la Orden de Alcántara, Pedro de Ybarra.

The article describes the Castle of Portezuelo (Cáceres), its historical evolution as well as the progressive abandonment and deterioration of its defensive systems, which were nevertheless maintained and restored in anticipation of the conflagrations that could arise against the arms of the neighbouring kingdom of Portugal. The reforms undertaken in the castle of Portezuelo in the mid-16th century should be seen in this context, according to a document found in the National Historical Archive. These works were to have been carried out under the plans and conditions of Pedro de Ybarra, the Order of Alcántara's master builder.
