La relación abuelos-nietos, y su aportación a la discapacidad

Abstract

Ante los nuevos cambios sociales y culturales que se manifiestan en las últimas décadas, como son el aumento de la esperanza de vida, la incorporación de la mujer al mundo laboral, y el cambio de concepción de la discapacidad, aparece una nueva relación entre los abuelos y los nietos, y también cuando este último presenta alguna discapacidad. En una investigación llevada a cabo en Burgos y provincia, donde fueron entrevistados 603 abuelos y abuelas, y se analizaron las características de los abuelos, las características de los nietos, las actividades conjuntas y la imagen que los abuelos tienen de la relación. Una de las variables recogidas era la existencia o no en el nieto de discapacidad. A través de esta variable hemos obtenido que esta relación intergeneracional se enfrenta de forma distinta cuando el nieto presenta alguna discapacidad, suponiendo el abuelo una fuente de gran ayuda para el nieto y para la familia de éste, y llevando a cabo gran número de actividades y con gran frecuencia con el mismo, y a la vez, percibiendo la relación de forma no ajustada conforme al número de actividades y frecuencia de las mismas.

Given the new social and cultural changes that have manifested themselves in recent decades, such as the increase in life expectancy, the incorporation of women into the world of work, and the change in the conception of disability, a new relationship between grandparents and grandchildren appears, and also when the latter has a disability. In an investigation carried out in Burgos and province, where 603 grandparents were interviewed, and the characteristics of grandparents, the characteristics of grandchildren, joint activities and the image that grandparents have of the relationship were analyzed. One of the variables collected was the existence or not in the grandchild of disability. Through this variable we have obtained that this intergenerational relationship is faced differently when the grandchild has a disability, assuming the grandfather a source of great help for the grandson and for his family, and carrying out a large number of activities and very frequently with him, and at the same time, perceiving the relationship in an unadjusted way according to the number of activities and frequency of them.
