La relación entre abuelos y nietos según la edad del nieto

Abstract

En las últimas décadas la sociedad española ha experimentado importantes cambios sociales y culturales. El incremento de la esperanza de vida, la incorporación de la mujer al mercado laboral, la expansión de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación, etc. han supuesto una nueva concepción de la sociedad, y consecuentemente de la familia. Es nuestro interés profundizar en los presentes modelos de familia donde la figura del abuelo/a cobra nuevos matices. Pretendemos, por tanto, descubrir y analizar las relaciones intergeneracionales entre abuelos y nietos, y como queda definido el actual rol o funciones del abuelo/a con su nieto. Para ello se realizó una investigación en Burgos y provincia, donde fueron entrevistados 603 abuelos y abuelas. Se analizaron tanto las características de los abuelos como las de los nietos; descubriéndose las actividades conjuntas que realizan y la imagen que los abuelos tienen de la relación con sus nietos. Una de las variables recogidas, y que a nuestro entender condiciona la forma de relación, ha sido la edad de los nietos. Es una de las variables más importantes en la relación abuelo-nieto, ya que el nieto, según avanza en su desarrollo evolutivo tendrá unas necesidades desiguales, con lo cual un abuelo va a tener diferentes funciones y estilos, no sólo con cada uno de sus nietos, sino con un mismo nieto a lo largo de su desarrollo y maduración.

In recent decades, Spanish society has experienced important social and cultural changes. The increase in life expectancy, the incorporation of women into the labor market, the expansion of information and communication technologies, etc., have led to a new conception of society, and consequently of the family. It is our interest to delve into the present family models where the figure of the grandparent takes on new nuances. We intend, therefore, to discover and analyze the intergenerational relationships between grandparents and grandchildren, and how the current role or functions of the grandparent with his/her grandchild are defined. To this end, an investigation was carried out in Burgos and the province, where 603 grandfathers and grandmothers were interviewed. The characteristics of both grandparents and grandchildren were analyzed; discovering the joint activities they carry out and the image that grandparents have of the relationship with their grandchildren. One of the variables collected, and which in our opinion conditions the form of relationship, has been the age of the grandchildren. It is one of the most important variables in the grandparent-grandchild relationship, since the grandchild, as he advances in his evolutionary development, will have unequal needs, so a grandparent will have different functions and styles, not only with each of his grandchildren, but with the same grandchild throughout his development and maturation.
