Ciencia en Extremadura en el transito del siglo XIX al XX

Abstract

Durante mucho tiempo, quizás demasiado, la Historia de la Ciencia se ha construido como una relaci6n de hechos científicos relevantes, con el inconveniente de los chauvinismos•, o desde el punto de vista biográfico. Es claro que bajo estos moldes escribir sobre la Ciencia, no sólo en Extremadura sino también en España, es un empeño harto difícil. Pero si consideramos que la ciencia no es algo independiente del hombre, sino que constituye una parte de la totalidad de la vida humana y si quiere hablarse, en particular, de los conocimientos científicos de una cierta sociedad, de un país determinado o de una época dada, la historia de la Ciencia, en general, hay que abordarla en funci6n de la Vida Social y del espíritu del tiempo.

For a long time, perhaps too long, the History of Science has been constructed as a list of relevant scientific facts, with the drawback of chauvinism, or from a biographical point of view. It is clear that under these molds writing about Science, not only in Extremadura but also in Spain, is a very difficult endeavor. But if we consider that science is not something independent of man, but that it constitutes a part of the totality of human life and if we want to speak, in particular, of the scientific knowledge of a certain society, of a certain country or of a time given, the history of Science, in general, must be approached in terms of Social Life and the spirit of the time.
