V Aniversario de la conquista de México por Cortés. Una ocasión perdida para fraternizar México, España y Extremadura

Abstract

El 13 de agosto se cumplieron 500 años de la conquista de México por las tropas de Cortés, unos 400 soldados, acompañados con miles de pueblos indios sometidos por el imperio azteca, cuya ciudad imperial era Tenochtitlan. Loa hechos conmemorativos en México se han utilizado para denunciar los abusos y crueldades de los conquistadores españoles, y en España ha sido silenciado por el gobierno, siendo recordado únicamente por algunos artículos de prensa. En el presente ensayo pretendemos ofrecer en la Primera Parte, unas pistas de análisis, que van más allá de la simbólica fecha del V Centenario, analizando la manifestación en las redes sociales de la hispanofobia, hoy reactualizada con mayor odio por el anticolonialismo triunfante. En una Segunda Parte presentamos las opiniones y sentimientos de miles de estudiantes españoles y extremeños sobre estas cuestiones americanistas, como son la valoración de la conquista española, los vínculos que nos unen, la conveniencia de celebración de estos centenarios. Y en una Tercera Parte, analizamos el tema de la conmemoración del V Centenario en la prensa y en manifestaciones callejeras. que debiera haberse aprovechado para reforzar lazos fraternales entre México, España y Extremadura, pero que lamentablemente no ha sido así, terminando en una gran ocasión perdida de reconciliación hispanoamericana.

August 13 marked the 500th anniversary of the conquest of Mexico by the troops of Cortés, some 400 soldiers, accompanied by thousands of Indian peoples subjugated by the Aztec empire, whose imperial city was Tenochtitlan. Loa commemorative events in Mexico have been used to denounce the abuses and cruelties of the Spanish conquerors, and in Spain it has been silenced by the government, being remembered only by some press articles. In this essay we intend to offer in the First Part, some clues of analysis, which go beyond the symbolic date of the V Centenary, analyzing the manifestation of Hispanophobia in social networks, today updated with greater hatred for triumphant anticolonialism. In a Second Part we present the opinions and feelings of thousands of Spanish and Extremaduran students on these Americanist issues, such as the assessment of the Spanish conquest, the links that unite us, the convenience of celebrating these centenaries. And in a Third Part, we analyze the theme of the commemoration of the V Centenary in the press and in street demonstrations. that should have been used to strengthen fraternal ties between Mexico, Spain and Extremadura, but unfortunately this has not been the case, ending in a great lost opportunity for Latin American reconciliation.
