La pandemia mundial fotografiada. Análisis de imágenes premiadas en grandes certámenes fotográficos mundiales

Abstract

La pandemia de COVID-19 ha sido la noticia más importante y tratada en 2020 en el mundo. Las informaciones textuales han ido acompañadas de imágenes de diversa tipología, a pesar de las dificultades implícitas para los fotoperiodistas. En este trabajo se analizan las imágenes relacionadas con la pandemia mundial que han sido premiadas en cuatro de los certámenes fotográficos de mayor prestigio mundial: World Press Photo, Sony World Photography Awards, The Pulitzer Prizes & International Photo Awards. El objetivo es determinar qué temas son tratados y qué características más importantes, técnicas y formales, tienen las obras. Se utiliza el análisis de contenido mediante una ficha diseñada ad hoc basada en modelos previos. De los resultados se extrae que la temática es diversa, ya se trate la pandemia de forma directa (atención a las víctimas y profesionales), o de forma indirecta (confinamientos y consecuencias).

The COVID-19 pandemic was the most important and most widely covered news item in 2020 worldwide. Textual information has been accompanied by images of different types, despite the difficulties associated with the pandemic for photojournalists. This paper analyzes the images related to the global pandemic that have been awarded prizes in four of the most prestigious photographic competitions worldwide: World Press Photo, Sony World Photography Awards, The Pulitzer Prizes & International Photo Awards. The objective is to determine which themes are treated and what are the most important technical and formal characteristics of the works. Content analysis is used using an ad hoc designed model based on previous ones. The results show that the subject matter is diverse, whether the coronavirus pandemic is dealt with directly (attention to victims and professionals) or indirectly (confinements and consequences in general
