Gestión en áreas protegidas y áreas de designación internacional: Diagnóstico y retos

Abstract

Esta tesis surge de un análisis sobre la efectividad de la gestión de las áreas protegidas tras su creación. Muchos avances aún son necesarios en relación con la creación y desarrollo de nuevas áreas protegidas. A lo largo de todo ese periodo urge discutir sobre el modo en que las áreas ya creadas están siendo gestionadas para que puedan cumplir con sus objetivos marcados desde el inicio de su planificación. De esta manera, esta tesis busca realizar un buen diagnóstico de la situación de las áreas protegidas basado en sus instrumentos de gestión y, por ende, identificar los principales retos para una gestión eficaz de dichas áreas. El primer capítulo del documento aborda de manera comparada el desarrollo de la planificación de áreas protegidas en España y Brasil. En el segundo capítulo se presenta la perspectiva de otra figura de protección internacional, los Geoparques Mundiales de la UNESCO, en comparación con la estructura de gestión de las áreas protegidas. Por medio de un estudio de caso en el aspirante Geoparque Oeste, en Portugal. El tercer capítulo se profundiza en el impacto de la gestión participativa de los Geoparques para el desarrollo de un turismo en armonía y respeto a la naturaleza que puede contribuir con la preservación de los espacios naturales. El trabajo analizó si los Geoparques contribuyen a mejorar la salud de los turistas mayores de 65 años y cuáles fueron sus principales motivos para visitar los Geoparques.

This thesis arises from an analysis of the effectiveness of protected area management after their creation. Much progress is still needed in relation to the creation and development of new protected areas. Throughout this whole period, there is an urgent need to discuss the way in which already created areas are being managed so that they can fulfill their objectives set since the beginning of their planning. In this way, this thesis seeks to make a good diagnosis of the situation of protected areas based on their management instruments and, therefore, identify the main challenges for effective management of said areas. The first chapter of the document addresses in a comparative way the development of protected area planning in Spain and Brazil. The second chapter presents the perspective of another international protection figure, the UNESCO World Geoparks, in comparison with the structure of protected area management. Through a case study in the aspiring Oeste Geopark, in Portugal. The third chapter delves into the impact of the participatory management of Geoparks for the development of tourism in harmony and respect for nature that can contribute to the preservation of natural areas. The work analyzed whether geoparks contribute to improving the health of tourists over 65 years of age and what were their main reasons for visiting geoparks.
