Mujeres solteras e independientes en la España del siglo XVIII: rentas familiares y gestión patrimonial en el mediodía peninsular

Abstract

Se analiza el papel desempeñado por las solteras como mujeres autónomas y jefes de familia en el Antiguo Régimen, tomando como referencia el sur peninsular en el s.XVIII. Como fuente, utilizaremos las informaciones que ofrece sobre el reino de Jaén el Catastro del marqués de la Ensenada de 1752 y las Comprobaciones de 1761, conservados en el Archivo Histórico Provincial de Jaén y Archivo General de Simancas, respectivamente. Metodológicamente, por un lado, teniendo como referencia los estudios de P. Laslett y de la Escuela de Cambridge, se analizará la familia de las mujeres y la corresidencia entre parientes. Por otro lado, a partir de métodos cuantitativos, se hará una aproximación a la situación económica, a las ocupaciones y al patrimonio familiar.

This article analyzes the single women as heads of families in the Old Regime. The South of Iberian Peninsula, particularly the Kingdom of Jaén (Andalusia) is the geographical area studied in the Eighteenth century. For this essay it is has been used as a main source, the Cadastre of the Marquis de la Ensenada (1752) wich are preserved in the Provincial Historical Archive of Jaén, as well as the Checks of 1761, kept in the General Archive of Simancas. Methodologically, on the one hand, the studies of P. Laslett and the Cambridge School for analyse the family structure of women has been used as reference. On the other hand, it has been utilised quantitative methods for establish an approximation to the economic situation, trades and family patrimony.
