This thesis has developed a sequence of teaching and learning about acidity and basicity for the high schools level in the Mexican educational system. Information concerning the process of the teaching-learning of the subject was collected from several sources, namely: textbooks; the pedagogical content knowledge of experience teachers; knowledge on the topic from the student body, as well as literature and the other documents. This has resulted in the following objectives: • To analyze the development of contents on the topic of Acidity and Basicity in the textbooks and alternative conceptions reported in the literature. • To document how undergraduate and graduate teachers with teaching experience design, prepare and organize their classes inside and outside the classroom on the subject of Acidity and Basicity, i.e. the Pedagogical Content Knowledge (PCK) that they possess at the high school level. • To identify the knowledge of Mexican high school students, on the issue of Acidity and Basicity. • To structure a teaching-learning sequence (TLS) for teaching the subject in high school/baccalaureate, based on the analysis of textbooks, individual CDC documented and the reported alternative conception of students.
