“Scholastica colonialis”: el contexto curricular de los misioneros franciscanos extremeños

Abstract

Una de las regiones que más contribuyó humanamente al encuentro de los europeos con el llamado Nuevo Mundo fueron los extremeños y en especial los religiosos franciscanos. El estudio pretende indicar el contexto formativo de la acción misionera. Pretendemos señalar cómo la acción misionera fue una correa de transmisión indirecta del pensamiento escolástico, describiendo la formación y el contexto intelectual que recibieron los misioneros. Señalamos algunos de los misioneros que fueron y lo que los frailes estudiaban en la época.

Missionaries from Extremadura, and especially Franciscan monks, made the greatest humane contribution to the encounter between Europeans and the so called New World. This study aims at highlighting the formative context in missionary activities. It will be pointed out how missionary action worked was a vehicle for the indirect spread of scholastic thought through the description of the intellectual formation of the missionaries as well as of their context. Also, the names of some of the missionaries who travelled to the New World will be mentioned and the curriculum used to educate friars will be dealth with.
