La conversión a la "idea austríaca" de Joseph Roth

Abstract

El escritor y periodista Joseph Roth se transforma en firme defensor de la monarquía y el catolicismo, pese a sus tendencias socialistas anteriores. Escritor de novelas desarrolladas en Viena en las que ignora el problema austriaco durante los años 20, es a partir de la aparición, en 1932, de Radetzkymarsch cuando se inicia con más fuerza el giro en su pensamiento y actitud, dando lugar a un brusco corte en su obra literaria. A partir de ahí afirma que la esencia de Austria no se encontraba en el centro del Imperio sino en la periferia, contrasentido entre "periferia/fidelidad a la idea habsbúrguica" que representan el binomio de los convertidos a la “idea austríaca” lamentando su actitud previa de ruptura. Un autor marcado por la guerra y por la pérdida de la monarquía austro-húngara.
