El providencialismo en la histografía cristiano-visigótica de España

Abstract

Se plantea qué pueblo es el sustituto del Imperio romano como instrumento de la Providencia en la historiografía visigótica. Se analiza la posible influencia en el providencialismo de la historiografía visigótica por parte de los historiadores cristianos bizantinos. Parece más bien que en este sentido la historiografía visigótica se encuentra o en la línea de una teología de la historia común a Oriente y Occidente o bien en una línea que se acerca bastante a la teología de la historia de Agustín y Orosio.

We analyze what people are the substitute of the Roman Empire as an instrument of Providence in the Visigoth historiography. The possible influence discussed in the Visigoth historiography providentialism come from the Byzantine Christian historians. It seems rather that in this sense the Visigoth historiography is or a historical theology common to East and West, or in a line that comes close to Augustine and Orosius' theology of history.
