Roberto Matta: el creador de mundos personales

Abstract

Analizamos la trayectoria personal y profesional de Roberto Matta, uno de los máximos representantes del surrealismo. Partimos de sus inicios vinculado a la arquitectura y al estudio de Le Corbusier, su unión con el grupo de los surrealistas franceses y su relación con André Bretón y Marcel Duchamp hasta su traslado a Nueva York y su abandono del grupo. Contextualizamos la actividad artística de Matta vinculada con los movimientos muralistas de Chile y concluimos con una selección de sus últimas exposiciones. Su muerte, el 23 de noviembre del 2002, hace de este sintético estudio un homenaje póstumo a uno de los grandes creadores del siglo XX.

This paper studies both the personal and professional evolution of Roberto Matta, one of the most important exponents of Surrealism, from his earlier work linked to Architecture and the study of Le Corbusier, his relations with the group of French Surrealists and André Breton and Marcel Duchamp, until he moved to New York and definitely left the group. His artistic activity in relation to the Mural Movement in Chile is contextualised. Finally, the paper concludes by offering a selection of his latest exhibitions. His decease, on November the 23rd of 2002, turns this brief study into a posthumous homage to one of the most creative artists of the 20th century.
