Las escuelas parroquiales de Olivenza

Abstract

El final del siglo XIX y el siglo XX fue un tiempo difícil para la educación en España, debido, principalmente, a la difícil situación política que se vivía en nuestro país, que desembocó en la Guerra Civil y una posterior dictadura que duraría cuarenta años. Además, la educación en sectores rurales como Olivenza, era algo así como una utopía. El trabajo se centra en la figura de D. José Hidalgo Marcos, quien luchó toda su vida por mejorar la educación en Olivenza, concretamente en un barrio muy humilde, el del Sagrado Corazón. Mediante una lucha incansable contra el absentismo escolar y el analfabetismo y usando como medio las peticiones que realizaba a cualquier persona que tuviera posibilidades económicas, logró que los niños tuvieran una educación que de otra manera les hubiera estado vedada. Se hace un análisis de su gran obra, las Escuelas Parroquiales “Sagrado Corazón”, creadas a mediados del siglo XX desde la miseria de una casa de una maestra y con la perseverancia y buena voluntad de su fundador, llegarían a contar también con dispensario, Teleclub, guardería, escuela-taller e, incluso, Asociación de Antiguos Alumnos. Estas Escuelas continúan en la actualidad con su gran labor docente.

The end of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries was a difficult time for education in Spain, due mainly to the difficult political situation in our country, which led to the Civil War and a subsequent dictatorship that would last for 40 years. In addition, education in rural areas such as Olivenza was something of a utopia. The work focuses on the figure of D. José Hidalgo Marcos, who fought all his life to improve education in Olivenza, specifically in a very humble neighborhood, the Sacred Heart. Through a tireless struggle against school absenteeism and illiteracy, and using as a means the requests he made to anyone who had economic possibilities, he succeeded in getting the children to have an education that would otherwise have been forbidden to them. An analysis is made of her great work, the "Sacred Heart" Parish Schools, created in the mid-twentieth century from the misery of a teacher's house and with the perseverance and goodwill of its founder, would also have a dispensary, Teleclub, kindergarten, school-workshop and even Alumni Association. These Schools continue today with their great teaching work.
