Reacciones emocionales a la literatura. Una revisión empírica a las teorías hermenéuticas y de la recepción estética a partir del comportamiento de lectores ante representaciones literarias de la violencia

Abstract

La tesis realiza una investigación sobre las reacciones emocionales de lectores a la literatura, especialmente a representaciones literarias de violencia. Son combinados métodos psicofisiológicos y literario-estructuralístico-hermenéuticos. En una primera parte teórica, se discuten críticamente modelos hermenéuticos diferentes y métodos del New Criticism, del Formalismo, y de la teoría reader-reception y los estudios empíricos de literatura. En una segunda parte analizamos cómo la neurociencia describe procesos y fenómenos emocionales. Los resultados de estos capítulos se sintetizarán, y funcionarán como herramientas en un experimento en el que analizamos cómo ciertos elementos y estrategias textuales influyen y causan reacciones emocionales en lectores y cómo fenómenos cognitivos y fisiológicos están relacionados con ellos. Seis textos literarios - Das Eiserne Kreuz (Heiner Müller); Bro – (Vladimir Sorokin); Der Ledermann spricht mit Hubert Fichte (Hans Eppendorfer); Von etwas Naheliegendem (Robert Walser); Guter alter Junge y Der alte Mann und das Auto (István Örkeny) - se analizarán al respecto de sus estructuras semánticas y formales. En un segundo paso la respuesta de piel galvánica de los participantes se grabará durante la lectura de estos textos. La medición hecha se conoce como indicador de excitación emocional. Finalmente, los participantes harán evaluarán sus reacciones emocionales. Este armazón hace posible determinar correlaciones precisas entre el nivel textual, fisiológico-corporal, y la experiencia personal. Este proyecto ayudará cuantificar la relación entre la experiencia psíquica consciente y las reacciones físicas.

This thesis undertakes an investigation of the emotional reader response to literature, especially to literary representations of violence, combining psychophysiological and literary-structuralistic-hermeneutical methods. In a first theoretical section, different hermeneutical models and methods of New Criticism, Formalism, reader-reception theory and the empirical study of literature will be critically discussed. In a second part we will analyze how neurosciences describe emotional processes and phenomena. The results of those chapters will be synthesized and will function as tools in an experiment in which we analyze how certain textual elements and strategies influence and cause emotional reactions of readers and how cognitive and physiological phenomena are related to them. Six literary texts - Das Eiserne Kreuz (Heiner Müller); Bro – (Vladimir Sorokin); Der Ledermann spricht mit Hubert Fichte (Hans Eppendorfer); Von etwas Naheliegendem (Robert Walser); Guter alter Junge and Der alte Mann und das Auto (István Örkeny) - will be analyzed concerning their semantic and formal structures. In a second step, the galvanic skin response, will be recorded online from several participants during the actual reading of those texts. The measure taken has been known to be an indicator of possible emotional arousal. Finally, participants will be asked to make appraisal ratings about their emotional reactions. This framework will make it possible to determine precisely correlations between the textual level, the bodily-physiological level, and the level of personal experience. This Project will therefore for the first time, help us quantify the relationship between conscious psychic experience of emotions and actual physical reactions.
