Labor de los Franciscanos en el siglo XVI

Abstract

En este trabajo se describe la aventura de los doce apóstoles, quienes se preparan en Belvís de Monroy, de aquí se trasladan a Sevilla y de ésta a Sanlúcar de Barrameda, de donde parten el 25 de enero de 1524 y llegan el 13 de mayo a Nueva España. Allí van a realizar una tarea evangelizadora, instructiva y curativa encomiable. Para llevar adelante su misión crean monasterios e instalan colegios junto a éstos, en los que adoctrinan a los mayores y a los niños, conviviendo con ellos. Su pedagogía fue fructífera, aunque hoy no estaríamos de acuerdo con ella. Asimismo levantaron hospitales, para curar a los numerosos enfermos de las múltiples epidemias que allá se propagaron.

In this article the adventure of the twelve Apostles is described. They prepare themselves in Belvís de Monroy, from here they move to Sevilla then to Sanlúcar de Barrameda from where they depart on January 25th 1524 and arrive to the New Spain on May 13th. They go there to carry out evangelist, instructive and curative task. To carry forward their task they create monasteries and set up schools close by where they instruct adults and children, whom live together with the Franciscanos. Their methodology was productive although today we would not agree with it. In the same way they built hospitals to cure the large amount of patients from the numerous epidemics that propagates.
