In the last decades, the rural world has experienced a reconstruction in the agrarian sector, which has produced a progressive loss of the importance of agriculture, the increase of its productivity levels, the reorganization of the developments, and, particularly, the multifunctionality of the agrarian activities. In general terms, this process has been accompanied by the growth and improvement of local industry and by the appearance of new residential, tourist and environmental uses. Consequently, all this seems to indicate that a “renaissance” of the rural is taking place. Without denying these transformations, this work intends to explain the obligation and the convenience of not generalizing them, not even in terms of the set of Spanish rural municipalities, or –especially–, in terms of the small Extremenian municipalities.es_ES
