La arquitectura efímera del Barroco en España

Abstract

En este artículo se estudian las construcciones efímeras realizadas con materiales maleables y de escasa consistencia, como maderas, carias, estopa, telas, cartón, papeles, cal y escayola, en edificaciones provisionales, creadas con motivo de fiestas públicas y de celebraciones solemnes de carácter colectivo. Éstas eran levantadas con la intención de crear un vistoso escenario que durase solamente el corto tiempo de las ceremonias para las cuales habían sido concebidas. De estas arquitecturas efímeras del Barroco (fachadas y pabellones ficticios, arcos de triunfo sacros, enramadas, fuentes, “castillos, montañas”, altares, teatros públicos, etc.) tenemos constancia por la memoria escrita o la imágenes gráficas que se conservan.

This article studies the ephemeral constructions made with malleable materials and of scarce consistency, such as wood, carias, tow, fabrics, cardboard, papers, lime and plaster, in temporary buildings, created for public festivities and solemn celebrations of collective nature. These were raised with the intention of creating a colorful stage that lasted only the short time of the ceremonies for which they had been conceived. Of these ephemeral architectures of the Baroque (fronts and fictitious pavilions, sacred triumphal arches, arbors, fountains, "castles, mountains", altars, public theaters, etc.) we have proof by the written memory or the graphic images that are conserved.
