Nuevas noticias sobre el retablo mayor de la iglesia parroquial de Malpartida de Plasencia (Cáceres)

Abstract

En el artículo se describe el retablo mayor de la iglesia parroquial de San Juan Bautista de Malpartida de Plasencia, Cáceres, cuya construcción se iniciaría a finales del siglo XV o inicios del XVI, finalizándose en los primeros años del siglo XVII. El retablo del siglo XVII ocupa todo el fondo del ábside y sus dos calles exteriores avanzan para adaptarse al ochavo, presentando así una planta quebrada. Se estructura en banco, dos cuerpos, divididos en cinco calles, y ático. La decoración como la de la época son relieves de los Evangelistas, los cuatro Padres de la Iglesia, varios santos y alegorías de las virtudes.

The article describes the main altarpiece of the parish church of San Juan Bautista de Malpartida de Plasencia, Cáceres, whose construction began at the end of the 15th century or the beginning of the 16th, ending in the first years of the 17th century. The altarpiece of the seventeenth century occupies the entire bottom of the apse and its two outer streets move to adapt to the ochavo, thus presenting a broken plant. It is structured in a bank, two bodies, divided into five streets, and an attic. The decoration as that of the time are reliefs of the Evangelists, the four Fathers of the Church, several saints and allegories of the virtues.
