La entomología forense veterinaria en España

Abstract

La entomología forense es una parte importante de la ciencia forense en la que el veterinario puede participar, pero que por desconocimiento y falta de inversión, queda invisible como salida profesional. A fin de acercar la materia al campo profesional de la veterinaria en España, se ha realizado una búsqueda y recopilación de información actualizada para documentar la situación actual de la entomología nacional y las especies que en nuestro país tienen mayor importancia en este ámbito, mediante una selección de los artículos más destacados que tratan la materia en el ámbito nacional. Esta ciencia que no es nueva resulta de gran ayuda en los procesos judiciales donde existe un cadáver en el que se han desarrollado artrópodos. Mediante el estudio de éstos, y, sobre todo, de las condiciones y tiempo con el que se han desarrollado, se pueden esclarecer datos importantes que rodean al suceso que llevó a la muerte del organismo, ya sea animal o humano, destacando la estimación que se puede hacer del intervalo post-mortem, dato primordial para la correcta comprensión e investigación judicial. Por lo tanto, es de vital importancia conocer la entomofauna implicada de cada región, no solamente en cuanto a su identificación, sino a las características que posee y su relación con el medio, como son su ecología, ciclos biológicos, etc. A pesar de que casi solo se enfoca en el ámbito legal de medicina forense humana, lo cierto es que debido al reciente despertar social en cuanto al bienestar animal, esta ciencia puede aplicarse de igual forma a los crímenes contra animales, no estrictamente en el ámbito rural de los agroseguros como peritos, sino también en el caso de atentados contra animales domésticos o protegidos, interviniendo también de forma indirecta en la detección del maltrato familiar, que parece tener más relación con la violencia animal de la que antaño se reconocía. Por todo lo comentado, la entomología forense es una herramienta que consigue abrir aún más el amplio abanico de salidas veterinarias en el mundo laboral, no sólo ayudando a la resolución de crímenes en humanos sino también en animales, debiendo incentivarse su estudio como una materia reglada en las universidades.

In order to bring the subject to the professional field of veterinary medicine in Spain, a search and collection of updated information has been carried out to document the current situation of the national entomology and the species that in our country have a greater importance in this field, through a selection of the most outstanding articles that deal with the subject at the national level This science which is not new is a big help in judicial processes where arthropods have been developed in corpses, s, since by studying them, and especially the conditions and time with which they have developed, you can clarify important data surrounding the event that led to the death of the organism, whether animal or human, and highlighting the estimate that can be made by using this science of post-mortem interval, being essential for the correct judicial investigation and understanding. Therefore, it is vital to know the ‘entomofauna' involved in each region, not only in terms of their identification, but also the characteristics they possess and their relationship with the environment, such as its ecology, biological cycles, etc. Although it almost only focuses on the legal field of humans, the truth is that due to the recent social awakening in terms of animal welfare, this science can be applied in the same way to crimes against animals, but also in the case of attacks against domestic or protected animals, intervening indirectly in the detection of family abuse that seems to have more to do with animal violence than was once recognized. For all the foregoing, forensic entomology is a tool that manages to further open the wide range of outputs that we have in the workplace as veterinarians, not only helping to solve crimes in humans but also in animals, trying to be encouraged to study as a regulated subject in the universities.
