Delivery and the fist hours of the foal elapse, in most cases, without any type of complication. However, because foals are very susceptibility to sepsis, there may be circumstances that compromise his life. Therefore, the first hours of life of the neonate foal are always fundamental to have a good prognosis. Thus, foals need attention and more care during the first hours. Diagnosing any abnormality quickly can be the difference between the life and death of animal. In this retrospective study, the main disorders that neonatal foal can suffers such as septicemia or ischemic hypoxic encephalopathy (IHE),as well as the parameters that help establish a diagnosis and prognosis are described. We must keep in mind that a premature/ dysmature foal can compromise the prognosis of the animal, something very important for the owner, especially at an economic level. The objective of this study is to evaluate the different laboratory parameters of neonate foals in critical condition and establish a prognosis that will help to owner to make a decision about future of foal.
