La señorialización de Ciudad Rodrigo durante el reinado de los últimos Trastámara

Abstract

Ciudad Rodrigo obtuvo desde fecha temprana privilegio de jurisdicción realenga, que mantuvo durante casi dos siglos, hasta que el monarca Juan II la ofreció en señorío a su esposa la reina Doña María. Hasta ese momento -año 1442- todos los monarcas anteriores desde Alfonso X, que concede el primer privilegio, habían jurado respetar su condición realenga, y el mismo Juan II lo había hecho unos años después de ocupar el trono. Esta ruptura del compromiso abriría la brecha de sucesivas donaciones, de manera que, antes de terminar el siglo, la ciudad pasó intermitentemente por cuatro manos en todos los reinados que lo cubren.

Ciudad Rodrigo obtained from an early date privilege of royal jurisdiction, which it held for almost two centuries, until the monarch Juan II offered it in lordship to his wife, queen Doña María. Up to that time (1442) all the previous monarchs since Alfonso X, who granted the first privilege, had sworn to respect their full status, and John II himself had done so a few years after taking the throne. This breach of commitment would open the gap of successive donations, so that, before the end of the century, the city passed intermittently by four hands in all the reigns that cover it.
