Corrado Guiaquinto: "La Paz y la Justicia", una lectura en base a la Emblemática

Abstract

Hasta la fecha la Emblemática ha sido estudiada desde diferentes puntos de vista: histórico, social y literario, pero no desde el prisma de la Historia del Arte. Este estudio trata de buscar el significado último del lienzo, para observar la gran deuda que Giaquinto tiene con la literatura ilustrada que conocemos con el nombre de Emblemática. La obra analizada va firmada en la columna situada en el centro del lienzo. Existe otro ejemplar con el mismo título (Museo del Prado, nº 582) que procede de la Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando. Entre ambas obras existe una diferencia de composición, pero los elementos significativos del lienzo son idénticos, como lo son las alegorías de la Paz y la Justicia.

Emblematics has been studied from different points of view: historical, social and literary, but not from the prism of the History of Art. This study tries to look for the ultimate meaning of the painting, to observe the great debt that Giaquinto has with the illustrated literature that we know with the name Emblematics. The analyzed work is signed in the column located in the center of the canvas. There is another copy with the same title (Prado Museum, n. 582) that comes from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of St. Ferdinad. Between both works there is a difference in composition, but the significant elements of the painting are identical, as are the allegories of Peace and Justice.
