Dictadores de novela: Franco y Salazar en la narrativa contemporánea española y portuguesa

Abstract

Portugal y España compartieron durante gran parte del siglo XX la experiencia histórica de las dos dictaduras más duraderas entre las europeas. La literatura de ambos países no ha pasado por alto esta temática, si bien no son muchas las novelas inspiradas en la figura de los respectivos dictadores. Abordamos un corpus luso-español de obras para analizar las estrategias empleadas en la construcción de la temporalidad diegética y determinar cómo esta manipulación contribuye al significado ideológico de los textos y a su imbricación con la historiografía. La naturaleza transnacional del corpus nos permitirá observar que existen intereses estético-ideológicos semejantes, pero también preocupaciones divergentes entre los autores portugueses y españoles

During most of the 20th century, Spain and Portugal lived a similar historical experience under the two longest-lived dictators in Europe. The literatures of both countries have not ignored this reality, despite the low number of novels that focus specifically on the figures of the respective dictators. In this study we will tackle a number of Luso-Spanish works in order to analyze the strategies employed in the construction of a diagetic time frame and to determine how this manipulation contributes to the ideological meaning of the texts and their overlap with history. The transnational nature of the body of texts will allow us to observe similar esthetic and ideological focuses, but also the very different concerns that drove these Spanish and Portuguese authors.
