La conquista de Granada: el testimonio de los vencidos

Abstract

Este trabajo trata sobre la caída del reino nazarí de Granada tal y como la vieron los musulmanes. Las fuentes disponibles –crónicas, textos jurídicos y literarios, cartas, etc.– subrayan que la guerra contra Castilla fue también una guerra civil. Estas fuentes muestran las dudas y vacilaciones de los vencidos, obligados a escoger entre la emigración al Magreb o la permanencia en Granada como mudéjares. Finalmente, nos permiten apreciar los problemas de conciencia y, sobre todo, los temores y ansiedades que generó la aceptación formal del cristianismo en 1499-1501.

This paper concerns the fall of the Nasrid kingdom of Granada as the Moslems saw it. The sources available –chronicles, juridical and literary texts, letters, etc.– emphasize that the war against Castile was also a civil war. These sources show the doubts and vacillations of the vanquished, obliged as they were to choose between the emigration to Maghreb or to stay in Granada as "mudéjares". Finally, we appreciate the moral problems, the fears and anxiety generated by the conversion to Christianity in 1499-1501.
