The linguistic andalucismo, for which Juan de Valdés, in his Diálogo de la lengua, reproves Nebrija as an authority on the Spanish language, cannot be seen in the forms which this Humanist singles out for criticism, nor in the phonology or grammar characteristic of the dialect, which are never present in the work of this Andalusian writer. However, andalucismo (of a very attenuated lexical type) can be seen in some of the words included by Nebrija in his Vocabulario. But, besides these Andalusian terms, Nebrija also included archaic or old-fashioned forms in his material, also present to a significant extent in Valdés' criticism. This study specifically refers to some of these archaic formos present in Nebrija's Vocabulario (that is, archaisms located mainly in the west). |
