Dificultades en la construcción del Puente de Alcántara. Condicionamientos y problemas técnicos

Abstract

Se reflexiona en este artículo acerca de las dificultades que pudo entrañar la construcción del puente de Alcántara, tras una revisión de los diversos documentos históricos y estudios que se han hecho sobre el mismo, además de los comentarios que han realizado los distintos ingenieros que han tratado sobre el puente o han actuado sobre él. Se tratan así aspectos técnicos y constructivos que, desde la perspectiva histórica de época moderna hasta la actualidad, pueden proyectarse sobre los problemas que pudo tener una obra tan monumental en su origen romano. En un epígrafe final se trata el puente como elemento militar, función que repercutiría también en el deterioro de su estructura y motivaría nuevas intervenciones para reconstruirlo.

This article deals with the difficulties in the process of construction of the Alcántara Bridge. The author analyses various historical documents and studies, as well as the comments made by different engineers who worked on the bridge or had some kind of intervention in it. From a modern historical perspective until the present, this study focuses on technical and constructive aspects that can be projected on the problems that the construction of such a monumental work, originally Roman, could have had. A final sectiondeals with the bridge as a military element, a function that also had an impact in the deterioration of its structure and would later on be the cause of interventions for its reconstruction.
